$5k in month one?! Sounds like a dream, right? Actually… it was all down to these 5 tips!
Ya’ll hear everyone touting their big figure months on IG stories all the time, but this post is different. I’m all about giving actionable tips that will truly move the needle in your biz (and if you don’t believe me, go and check out my IG highlight reel!). Making $5k in your first month in business is not the norm, but it totally can be!
… and here’s how:
I sold myself really well online
You have an entirely free resource and marketing platform on your phone. What you do with it, well that’s your choice. I spent hours every day, when I first launched my business, pitching myself and building connections in Facebook groups. Within a week I was fully-booked from Facebook groups alone. As I grew my business, I utilized Instagram more and more and really built my personal brand. Don’t have that many followers? No biggie. My third month in business I had a $10k+ launch with less than 2,000 followers. How? Every time I jumped on stories I felt in my heart that I was worth it! I delivered value, I was consistent and I showed up. This is a mantra I still follow! And it still works – I get 95% of my clients through Instagram.
All you need is a clean, consistent posting schedule, a good looking brand and something valuable to say.

I developed a high ticket offer
“Work smarter not harder” is an entrepreneurial commandment for a reason. Sure, you might make $5k selling 100’s of small offers. But to start off with, no one knows who you are and no one knows they can even buy from you. A highly connected, deeply personally, high ticket offer is the best way to bring in substantial revenue from the start. In my first month in business, I actually only had 3 clients! Yes, 3! Because the level of service I was offering was so personalized and had so many touch points, it enabled me to sell it for a higher price point. How could you make your service into a high ticket one? Remember, I started my entrepreneurial journey as a designer – I packaged up my services. Could you do the same with yours?
I upsold my current clients
It costs 5 times more to acquire a new customer than it does to retain a current one. So what could you do to keep your current clients with you for longer? I developed easy add-on packages that I could upsell to my current clients. If you’re leading with value and offer an exceptional service, they’ll want to stay with you. Create upsell packages that are so good, it would be mad to leave you!
I set up like my biz like a biz from the get-go
From day one I was using project management software (even when I only had one client to manage), I had professional systems and processes in place from lead generation to testimonial, and I had a ready-to-go social plan. Even when it was just me, I ran my business like I was already a six-figure business owner. Now, as I’ve scaled, pivoted, and grown, and my business is already ready! No stressing about keeping it up, this puppy was built to grow!
I embodied unstoppable!
Unstoppable is my word for 2020, but it’s nothing new to my business. Sure, I messed stuff up. Sure, I ‘failed’. But none of it stopped me. Every blip was another excuse to learn something – that’s how I’m still going… simply because I’ve never let anything stop me.
