From scheduling your days, to time-tracking your way to success… I got the goods and you know I’m gonna spill the tea sis!
I’m the first to admit that I used to suck at time management. Not that I’m not organized, girl I’m hella organized, but I can be a little over ambitious. My mind is always going at 100 miles an hour and I’m having new ideas all the time! Because of that, I used to have a tendency of writing really unachievable to-do lists. You know, the ones that are like 3 sides on A4… yeah, that was me.
But, being a digital nomad on the move has taught me to prioritize. Not everything can be the number one thing, right? In this post imma dive into my top time management hacks… oh, and there might be a little goodie at the bottom. You know how I roll, sister 😉
Time tracking
Get a Harvest account, download Toggl, even time yourself on your phone. I don’t care how you do it, but make time to time track! If you’re finding you’re spending 2.5 hours scrolling through Facebook groups or 3 hours creating freebies… you might want to reassess how you spend your time. But newsflash! You can’t prioritize properly if you don’t know what you’re already spending too much time on.
Time block your to do lists
Look at the tasks on your to-do list and assign an allotted amount of time to each task. Set a timer on your phone or whatever it is you need to do to keep to that time limit. [Don’t worry, I’ve got some seriously helpful advice on this down at the bottom ;)]
Use the Pomodoro method
Did you know your brain can actually only focus for a set amount of time? Now, that might differ from person to person, but it tends to be around 40 minutes. The Pomodoro method is simply asking your brain to only concentrate for that amount of time. You can get Pomodoro apps like Flora, Plantie or Stay Focused that keep you accountable to the timer you’ve set and don’t let you aimlessly scroll. (I see you, Sally. Step away from the Instagram!)
Have an easy-to-follow routine
I have a post on my own routine [LINK IT HERE], but create one that works for you. Having a routine isn’t the be-all-and-end-all, but it does eliminate the question of what to do next.
Have clear priorities
This isn’t about specific tasks, but more about how you spend your time. For example, if Instagram visibility is the number one way you’re bringing in clients right now, then that needs to be a priority that you stick to and assign dedicated time to. Sure, revamping your website might be on the list too, but it can take a secondary priority beneath your primary focus.
Schedule your social life
As a nomad and an entrepreneur in general, it’s really easy to get totally and utterly sucked into your business… but babe, you need a life too! Outside of working on your biz, schedule time to work-out, hang out with your boo, go on trips and try new experiences. Your brain needs to shut off to recharge – give it a chance!!
Go to bed ready
Before you shut off the light and get your zzz’s in, make sure you know what tomorrow’s first move is. By ticking something off right out of the gate, you’re setting yourself up for a BOSS day!
Do your own time thang!
When you’re planning out your days, be self-centric. If you’re super-pumped and analytical first thing in the AM, schedule deep-dive tasks in! If you’re creative once you’ve got into the flow of your day, throw content creation into the afternoon’s to-do list! Be led by your own rhythm – this is in no way a one size fits all strategy!
My name is… no!
Your time and energy are your most valuable assets. There will be 100 opportunities thrown at you, but do they throw you off? Respect the boundaries and schedules you’ve created for yourself. If your gut says ‘no’, it’s a no. No ifs, buts or coconuts!
Focus on one thing at a time
Multi-tasking is not a thing. Literally. Not a thing. Period.
Take advantage of travel time
No Wi-Fi? No problem! Plan ahead and book in tasks that don’t require you to be online. If I’m traveling, I’ll dive into content creation, writing blogs or planning out mini-trainings I want to record. Sometimes, a train without Wi-Fi is where I create my best goodies!
